Whole Grains: Part 2: Brown Rice

Millet - Barley- Oats- Whole Wheat- Quinoa - Spelt - Brown Rice - Couscous - Amaranth - Rye - Cornmeal- Buckwheat- Bulgar

Brown rice has always been a staple of mine.  Unlike white rice (which is pretty much like white bread- all nutrients have been removed in the processing).  Brown Rice is full of goodness.  It contains the whole rice grain, so it contains fibre.  It also has a bit of protein and iron as well as other nutrients.  Brown rice is easy to cook, it just needs to boil in water. (2 cups water to 1 cup brown rice).  It requires more water and more time than white rice.  It is hearty and earthy and filling!

Brown rice is so versatile!  It can be used nicely in a wide variety of dishes.  It's always nice topped with a stew!
