Whatever my husband said to my kids worked. They all bought into it. They all want to eat healthy and are gung-ho on the plant-based eating plan.
I made a variety of vegan meals this week. Some were met with hesitation, some they hated and barely tasted, some they tolerated and some they actually relished.
Note: We have a severe allergy in our family (No walnuts, pine nuts or sesame seeds! So our vegan meals have to be accommodated accordingly- adds for an extra challenge)
See the chart below for results!
Week 1: Family Feedback
Notes:
The fact that we ate 6 pineapples in 7 days is one thing, but overall I'd say the first plant-based week for my picky eaters was a success! Sure they didn't like everything, and they hated many things, but the point is: they are trying it and they each found some items they liked! The kids are putting in an effort and it is easy to see that they are already eating a superior diet than they did before.
O loved the hummus (ate it by the spoonful), Q loved the tofu-scramble breakfast tostadas and the black bean burgers. S loved the sweet potato bean soup and G loved the spinach salad! Unfortunately I burnt the butternut squash fries to a crisp and spilled a significant amount of orange juice on the floor. Plus there were a few times when G had to make crepes (with real eggs) because he hated the meal and was still hungry. (It's okay, it's a start!) There were a few peanut butter & banana sandwiches to make up for not eating the main meal, but again it's okay, we're in this together: not perfect, just trying our best. Let's see where this journey takes us!
Popcorn and lemonade treat!
(And dark chocolate with almonds for me)!
After the first week of vegan eating for my kids, they all deserved a family night out at the movies with some yummy snacks. I'm proud of my family and my hubby! (Who of course like everything I cooked! :)
